November 2º, 1936: The beginning of the world's oldest TV channel in the world, BBC One.

The BBC Television Service officially began regular broadcasts on November 2, 1936 on the VHF band from Alexandra Palace in London, and was inaugurated as the BBC Television Service.

On September 1, 1939, two days before Britain declared war on Germany, the station was taken off the air without warning, and the last program shown was the Mickey Mouse short film, "Mickey's Big Premiere." The British government was concerned that the VHF broadcasts would act as a beacon for enemy planes that might bomb London.

BBC returned on June 7, 1946 at 15:00. Jasmine Bligh, one of the original announcers, made the first announcement saying, "Good afternoon everyone, how are you, remember me, Jasmine Bligh?" The same Mickey Mouse cartoon shown in 1939 was repeated twenty minutes later.

BBC One had a complete monopoly on television in the UK until the first commercial channel, ITV, was launched in 1955.

BBC One is one of the leading television channels in the United Kingdom, offering a wide range of content, including current affairs, comedy, drama, quiz shows, children's programs, arts programs, and some educational and religious programs.
