October 26, 1965: The Beatles received: Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.

On a day like today but in 1965, the Liverpool quartet received the Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II for their contribution to English music.

After arriving at Buckingham Palace in a black-glass Rolls Royce, with at least 4,000 fans chanting "Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah," they stood in front of the Queen who personally pinned medals on the narrow lapels of their suits, the Queen shook hands to which the Beatles responded with a curtsy.
